Supporting Children's Giftedness for the Future

Last year, Verder started a new tradition on behalf of all of the Group’s employees, which is to back a charity that supports the education of children who are less fortunate in order to increase their chance of success in life. In return, we hope that in the future they will be able to contribute to their society.

This year, Verder has decided to help the Mensa Organization in the Czech Republic.
Our donation will go to the Project “Supporting Children’s Giftedness for the Future”. This project focuses on identifying, recognizing and further developing the giftedness of children in all areas, especially those from socially disadvantaged neighborhoods.

Gifted and talented children are faced with many challenges. One of these challenges is: being correctly identified. The other is: living in a world where their personal traits are often poorly understood. Such challenges put these children at risk of having to face certain difficulties at home and at school. When gifted and talented children are misdiagnosed and wrongly stigmatized, they cannot receive the type of support they need. After some time, they often stop making an effort, suffer at school and their talent is wasted for good. Therefore, families, educators, and doctors need to be better educated about the characteristics and social and emotional needs of gifted and talented children. This project will train and develop the approach that authorities and teachers need to take towards gifted children. Discover hidden treasures and embrace giftedness within our community for a better future for all.

Bednet

Bednet, Belgium was the first organization we helped. It provides synchronous internet education (SIE) - real-time distance education to children and youngsters who are absent for a shorter or longer period due to illness, surgery or pregnancy. Bednet supported 335 children during the school year 2015-16, compared to just 37 children in their first active school year of 2007-2008.
With the help of governmental and private sponsors over 1,500 children with a long-term or chronic illness have been able to use Bednet’s SIE across 887 Flemish schools.

Bednet would like to thank the firm’s employees for the wonderful support they received from Verder in 2016:

"Thanks to your gift of €25,000, Bednet was able to acquire computer equipment and IT coaching for twelve chronically, long-term ill children and young people between 5 and 18 years of age. With Bednet, they can attend their own classes from home or from the hospital. As a result, they are able to keep up with the class’s pace and stay in touch with their friends, allowing them to forget their medical troubles for a while. Your support made it possible for these families and their schools to continue to use Bednet for free.

We are deeply grateful."

Els Janssens, managing director Bednet
